Be Impeccable With Your Word

I am one week into a four week series of workshop sessions which are focused upon The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. This is my first workshop, (which includes yoga: breath work, asana, mediation and a book talk, all in one!) since obtaining my yoga and SEL certificates and it has been such a positive thing, on so many levels.

Impeccability of the word can be measured by your level of self-love. If you love yourself, you will express that love in your interactions with others, and that action will produce a like reaction.

One point that stood out during the book talk that we could all agree upon is that is starts with yourself. It is the words that you use with yourself. The way in which you speak to yourself. The way in which you show kindness to yourself. And the way in which you keep commitments to yourself.

The truth is the most important part of being impeccable with your word.

Authenticity. If you cannot be true to yourself, how can you be true to the world? How do you even know who your true self is? We are constantly being bombarded with ideals and the opinions and shoulds from others; when in actuality, they most likely don’t own those thoughts and perspectives themselves, but have rather been feed them just as they are feeding you. This is what is known as domestication.

When you hear an opinion and believe it, you make an agreement and it becomes part of your belief system. The only thing that can break this agreement is to make a new one based on truth. Only the truth has the power to set you free.

The only way to find yourself and your truth is to push everything else out. That is where the power of yoga… breath work and meditation come in. However, you don’t need to officially practice “yoga” to achieve this goal. The quieting of the mind can come in may ways. Creating, such as art, music, writings. Spending time in nature, such as gardening, hiking, even sun bathing. One of the most powerful forms of “non-yoga” yoga for me is running. I am outside, in nature, in all varieties of weather and my mind shuts down while I run. I find it to be completely therapeutic, meditative, and invigorating, despite the fact that I actually dislike the actual physical aspect of putting one foot in front of the other at an above walking pace.

Your word can create the most beautiful dream, or your word can destroy everything around you. Impeccability of the word only creates beauty, love, and heaven on earth.

You are worthy. Your words have meaning. You deserve to be heard. So… what is it that you have to say?
